Here are full details of all our regular events that are free to unpaid Carers in the Luton area. We have also listed details of some special one-off events that are coming soon to a venue near you.

  • No Limits Multi Activity Sports Club Adapted bikes

    Due to the growing popularity of the adapted bikes in Luton, No Limits have expanded the programme to provide session times on three days.

    Hour long sessions are available for hire for recreation or rehabilitation by individuals or groups. Learn to ride sessions for children are also available on Friday after school.

    Dates:

    • Mondays – 9.30am – 1.30pm
    • Wednesdays – 10.00am – 2.00pm
    • Fridays – 11.00am – 2.00pm

  • General Swimming Sessions for Disabled People and their Carers.

    These sessions are not only for people with a disability but others are also welcome to join in, to make it a family session or to offer the support needed for the person with a disability i.e. parents or brothers & sisters or a carer. Individuals who require support must bring the support they need along with them.

    Date: Sessions run on a Saturday afternoon between 3.15pm and 4.45pm.

    Cost: £1.40 for the person with a disability, free for attending carers and everyone else.

Peer Support Groups

Find support with our peer support groups

Fibromyalgia Support Group: 1st Tuesday of every month from 1.30 to 3.30pm.
Eating Disorder Support Group for Carers (CEDA): Friday 9th September and then the first Friday of the month at 10.30am to 12.00pm.
Physical Health and Emotional Wellbeing (PHEW): Weds 14th September and then on the 2nd Wednesday of the month, from 11am to 1pm.

Meditation and Relaxation Course

Do you feel stressed?
Do you suffer with anxiety or depression?
Would you benefit from some time to relax?
Do you need some “me time”?

Our meditation and relaxation sessions can help. There are many benefits to meditation, mindfulness and relaxation. With guidance, you will learn to cope better with the stresses of life, helping you to relax, unwind and breathe deeply.

In partnership with Red Mountain WellBeing, you can attend a series of one hour relaxation sessions. This is a gentle, calming and supportive group giving you time to relax and develop techniques to use at home.

Improving Mental Health and Wellbeing for Carers

NOAH Enterprise are working with Luton Adult Learning to deliver a Government funded mental health research project. The project is investigating whether short community learning courses help people to develop strategies to manage their mild to moderate mental health problems. Courses run for 5 weeks – 3 hours a week, and are free to those who are eligible.

The aims of the project are to:

    • Develop practical strategies such as relaxation and stress management techniques
    • Meet new people and improve your mental health and wellbeing
    • Identify practical steps that you can apply in a range of situations
    • Help and guidance in a small and supportive group
    • Develop your confidence and resilience

Friday 14th July

The Big Conversation – helping Carers with End of Life Care

For carers, there are many subjects and issues to resolve which means a lot of conversations. There probably isn’t a more difficult subject to discuss than death and for carers it’s end of life care for their loved one.

There are unique issues facing carers of those approaching the end of life. The National Council for Palliative Care are holding an interactive event – the Big Conversation – Identifying Priorities and Building Resilience for Carers in End of Life Care on Friday 14th July 2017 at Keech Hospice.

The event will discuss priorities for carers who are currently caring for someone with a life-limiting condition or at end of life. The event will:

  • Help identify the most important issues for current carers
  • Help to design some supportive mechanisms/tools around resilience for carers
  • Hear from former carers about their experiences
  • Form recommendations for future carers

Speakers include:

  • Jen Kenward, Experience of Care Lead, Community, Primary & Integrated Care, NHS England
  • Gemima Fitzgerald, Clinical Psychologist/Bereavement Lead, The Rowans Hospice, Portsmouth
  • Former carers who will share their personal experiences to help inform those who can influence change
